I have been otherwise occupied over the last month with my oldest son in and out of hospital so I have done zero modelling. I did manage to finally pick up my BR52 Locomotive, so I could very well be starting that soon I hope. I thought I would post some shots of my cyborg skull that has appeared as my avatar since I joined PA. Yes I am BORED, can you tell?
This is a sci- fi subject but it is armored and I think that there is a closet following of sc-fi amongst armor modellers.
This weird looking thing started life as a 1:1 scale Revell human skull that could glow in the dark. Well 'bugger that' I thought and in 1994, whilst unemployed, I set about turning this kit into a cyborg. I did some sketches and I was ready to start building.............

I mounted the whole thing on a single throat carburettor and constructed a neck from film canisters.I had to build the head in a number of sub assemblies so that I could construct and paint a mechanical brain.

That eye surround started life as a 1:24 FW 190 COWLING which I reworked with modelling clay. I continued the modelling clay up the head as armor plate and added the mounting screws. The internal eye was created with the internals of an old wristwatch, painted various colors and topped off with a small brass washer.

Once all the pieces were finished for this, I split the top part of the skull open so that the detail could be seen. The internal wiring and gears were really hard as each assembly interlocked with the one below. Some assemblies were in the top half and some in the base. Fitting them together was a nightmare but it all worked out in the end.

It still sits in the corner of my model room , mounted on a tripod forever staring ......at me! He is a good hat stand and these keep the dust out of his brain.
