A very light hearted look at 511 in Berlin at the end.
The 3rd Co. of 511 picked up some of the last 'big boys' straight from the factory on the 31st March 1945.
These tigers had all the featues of the last vehicles and did not seem to carry any markings. They are usually depicted with a green base as per the last paint order but there is some debate whether this base color could have been red primer. The color profile i used as a guide is from the osprey King Tiger book. I did not do the paint scheme as an exact copy but did like the idea of the bare steel barrel. I missed the special late model front guards when I did this but Hey , next time I will put them in. I also left out the circles from the cammo as I was trying to depict another vehicle from the same batch and wanted to make it slightly different to the one in the picture.

This diorama I did [1998/99] for Custom Dioramics before they were bought by VLS. I wanted to try something a little less serious with my larger dio's and went for 511 because I liked the fact that they got their last batch of Kingy's straight from the factory.
I have been slack and haven't been doing any tanks recently. I have been building other stuff though, so I have been modelling.
There are various details within the dio that elude to the end of the war through humor [be it dry], so look hard and see if you can find them all [6]. One is Adolf himself standing in the rubble between the buildings

I used Custom Dioramics [CD] and VLD buildings plus CD boxes, cobblestones, wallpaper and some other accessories.

The figures are all VLS, modified in some cases. The little dog was given to me by a friend [ J.B. - thanks again]so I don't know what company it was from- it was a resin animal though.

I detailed the tanks with Aber brass sets, VLS ENGINE BAY, Tamiya individual track set, kasten lifting hooks plus a lot of scratch built details - petrol overflow pipes, handles, missing bolts, drive sprocket mount, rain guard etc.

VP TIGER 2 RESIN ENGINE BAY..................................................
This soldier is relieving himself on a portrait of Hitler [you can just see it lying flat on the ground in front of him].

The German flag was created with tissue paper and a stencil and I 'ratted' the jib crane from a mk4 recovery update from VP.

The table came from the old Italieri set as did a lot of the tools. I included 'wear and tear' on the table surface in the form of scratch's and dints. I used odds and ends for the mechanical bits.

I have some more details on the engine blocks and painting them that I will post tomorrow. See you guys then.
P.S. I got a new airbrush for my B'day -------- double action Paasche [I think that is how you spell it]. Its still a Virgin though. I am about to give it it's first run on a spaceship model so I can't wait!
