Panther G 6 Dot of I./24 Normandy 1944

Hey, this posting stuff is fun!!
So this is what im working on at present, another DML Smart G. Man I loooooove this kit. Im doing a pretty much OOTB build, not adding any etch other than whats in the kit, and only changing a few minor details.. oh and adding zimmerit. This is the vehicle im basing it on, 6 Dot, in Normandy:

Quite a famous beastie, and it has some great features that are fairly unique to the unit it served in I./24, namely tracks mounted on the turret, spare wheels mounted also on the turret and secured with 3 bolts, jerry can racks on the rear plate, and the gun cleaning rod tube mounted on the rear deck.

So here are the build up shots. Its DEAD easy to back date the DML kit from a final to an earlier model panther, all that needed replacing were the idlers, and the exhausts. Of course the IR horse shoe thingy on the turret needed removal, and the locating holes for the poison gas tape holder dealies needed filling. For the idlers, i used Clippers' white metal small idlers. I got these from Rainbow Ten. For the exhausts, i had some spare Tamiya ones left over, all I did was drill the ends out and added the little reinforcing bar - more on that later.

And some close uppey shots
The front drivers' side tool rack is missing bits in the wartime shots, i cant really make out whats missing and whats not. There definately isnt a shovel and the bolt cutters are missing.. ive chopped out the missing fender section too, as per the real thing

I used left over etch track brackets from the CyberHobby Panther F for the turret track brackets

In this shot you can see the fantastically accurate and perfectly bent episcope guards.. courtesy of Sheeds.

Back plate detail

Spare wheel.. this should actually be a D wheel with the lesser amount of bolts.. i may change it.. i may not...coLAZYugh

The zimmerit is done with Mori Mori putty, using Gum Ka's zimmerit rakes. Mori Mori is the answer, so easy to use, and smells awesome!

There is an excellent thread on this units' panthers, and their markings over on ML:

Thats all I have for now, ill be getting some paint on over the next little while.
