A43 Infantry Tank - Black Prince

The A43 Black Prince or sometimes the Super Churchill was a development of the sturdy Churchill VII.. however it was dropped in favour of the Centurion after 4 prototypes

As a further move to the "not quite right" side of modelling.. I decided I needed a Black Prince in my weird AFV's collection. Now since it is basically a from the ground up Scratch build.. we will see if we get one or not.

Here is the beasty

This is the remaining example on display at Bovington

Now for starters the A43 is longer and wider than the Churchill, has a completly different turret and also an extra set of road wheels. I am using the George Bradford drawings as a basis plus shots I have of the tank at Bovington, plus the usual web searches. It has give me enough to go on.. will it be 100% accurate.. probably not.. but it will do me.

So for starters.. a new hull

A new turret, with mantlet cover from apoxy sculpt. Rubio 17 Pdr barrel.

Using the Churchill basic bogies, but adding an extra resin copy, plus the different suspension supports.

.. and this is where we are at as of now, testfitting the side plates and working out how to do that finicky overhang of the track guards, for the wider tracks.

Obviously much more to come and the running gear is going to be the real issue.. the tracks are different plus the drive/idlers are different from your standard Churchy.. but hey that figures.
