Here is the Sherman ARV with the Dark Earth lower end. I then went over this with thinned Tamiya buff in preparation for the upcoming filters, washes and powder work.
I also went over some of the stowage items with various colors of green to give some variation to the items. Mig was king enough to lend me this idea in another post- si I cant take credit for it. It really makes a big difference as it looks much more real than a uniformly covered vehicle.
I took a pic of the rear stowage as I had a few questions about the wicker stuff on the back. It is easily painted but messy- so I painted it 1st. I base coat in flat black and dry brush with a dark yellow. I will go over this with a lighter yellow and paint the metallic corner guards with black and graphite.
It took me 3 days to base coat the Dragon Wagon (DW). I am now spraying at a much lower pressure, around 10 PSI. I have much more control though it is much harder to get the paint into the recesses. I end up sticking the brush into the crevices and using multiple, thinned coats. The finish is fantastic and well worth the extra trouble.
I then went over the surface with my Micron using two different shades of lightened green. I added some Dark Yellow to the 1st round. The 2nd got a little tan, dark yellow and ochre. The effect is much less drastic in person. I wanted some discernable demarcation between the coats as a lot of the effect will be lost through subsequent weathering.
I still have a long way to go on these two, but progress is being made. I am now in the process of finishing the various stowage items for the DW. I have them stuck to a handy piece of wood with double sided carpet tape. I am still practicing ways of making wooden items with their paint chipped off and the wood base color showing through. I have trouble getting the base, wood color to look right. Anyone have any ideas? Please chime in if you do.
