Italeri Schnellboot S-100
1 Attachment(s)
Hello again,
It's been awhile, I had got bored with beer bottle decals on the Takom King Tiger diorama and needed a break. I give the Kudos to Fledermaus (Abdin) to help me move forward with the build. Thank you for the plethora of information and spare parts. Especially the forward gun ring :thumb: It has given me the inspiration to commence a very large project and it is not the first time on commencing a build which consumes most of the workbench. The Schnellboot build will be shared along with the King Tiger dio. Splitting the efforts between the 2 will be the challenge. It is the biggest or shall I say the longest box in the stash and at the moment and I have big desire to build something that floats and to work with creating a water scene. Metal barrels for all weapon platforms along with the Eduard Big Ed set, 10 of the Azimut resin figures and the Italeri boat crew. The plastic figures will have head and hand conversions by hornet Here are some progress shots of the sub sections. https://i.imgur.com/MMV2C17.jpg https://i.imgur.com/18wwK7C.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sFOKiUV.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zxZGlR8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OywyJyk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/A01jakS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7PclMqx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1RY2IrS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2XXoqEt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IhdSWxi.jpg Michael |
Oh, wow!
I have always desired to build Schnellboot myself, but unfortunately I have no room to show the finished model after. But no doubt I'll be following this thread with great interest. |
Thanks Glaurung.
And Hello again, Work has been slow on the schnellboot. Returning back to completing the wheelhouse I have commenced with removing the plastic doors and replacing them with photoetch. https://i.imgur.com/3Iqu9FN.jpg Evergreen strip was used on the skid plates on either side of the wheelhouse and on the deck. The brass was not prominent enough and the evergreen strip was the best way to emphasize the look. https://i.imgur.com/7eXV91a.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sQxBh2m.jpg https://i.imgur.com/441Em5Q.jpg Over the last 3 months the man cave was used as my new home due to half of the house and Kitchen being consumed with renovation work. The Schnellboot was put on the back burner for the time being as the sheer size was too difficult to handle with the amount of space in the room. I turned my attention to some other smaller subjects over this period and managed to achieve quite a few builds for an up and coming diorama. Will be commencing another thread for the diorama shortly. Here is where I am at.. https://i.imgur.com/y5Y0NDc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UEUBpuD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YOSkNjg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MB0t9wk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PuY4Niq.jpg The 2 Hobbyboss Panzer 38T's are yet to be built.Considerably surprised on how much interior detail is inside. https://i.imgur.com/0r8bhDy.jpg Some of the panzer crew figures will be used with head conversions. https://i.imgur.com/3vnUPXy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zmHdADT.jpg Love these Minart salloons https://i.imgur.com/JXYq0nH.jpg All of the above builds are built in sub sections for ease of painting and detailing. And for now, it's full steam ahead back with the Schnellboot.:thumb: Michael:) |
WOW!
There's a lot going on your workbench. Impressive. Kristjan |
Thanks Kristjan.
The reno work kept me busy at the workbench over the last 3 months and it's been a long time to churn out so much. The best part of the build with the gun platforms and fitting the resin figures is about to happen. Metal barrels ,photoetch shields and detailing. The fun stuff.:thumb: The bow 2cm will be the last to get together as with the limited info on the gun tub. I will spending a lot of time to scratchbuilding and superdetailing the bow gun with a figure in the tub firing the gun. There is not much info around the web on this area on how the forward gun is built. I suspect the gunner sat on a seat with a crank handle to bring the gun onto target with a footrest within the tub. Similar to being on the standard portable 2cm mount. More progress photos will follow over the Easter weekend.:thumb: Michael:) |
Hello
Here is the next installment of images. The twin 2cm is done ready in subsections for painting. Azimut Schnellboot figures with Alpine and hornet head conversions. The hornet head figure will have his arm converted to fit on the crank wheel. I'm calling this area finished for the time being. Time to work on the 37mm gun and crew. More to follow.... https://i.imgur.com/KHbk2pq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EMyZ3wl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Mvawcla.jpg https://i.imgur.com/GYlgdF7.jpg Michael |
Hello again,
Back again with the next installment. The Flak 42 gun crew are now test fitted in place. The items are in sub assembly sections ready for paint. The Azimut figures have 3 heads converted with Hornet and Alpine head conversions. Not sure why Azimut gave the gun crew all the weird hands. They all got the chop except for the dude holding the 37mm clip.:thumb: The top hand had to be re-positioned to be holding the shells on his shoulder. Will replace the hands from Hornet and Royal models. The arms will have to be filled in with Tamiya putty mixed with Revell Contacta professional glue applied with a 0 or 00 fine brush. Still one more minor thing to do is to glue the Helmet holders to the inside of the gun shield. Will finish off tonight as it concludes the rear of the gun assemblies. Moving to the forward to the bow 20mm is where all the work will be. The gun mount will be converted to the way I percieve how it should look. The tub ring will have the rivets applied to the outside and major mods for the inside to be addressed. Here we are with preview images of the Flak 42. https://i.imgur.com/FU8W1Ao.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MVGvN78.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PSDCs70.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fCpfRuI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/f31imbz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EYDezWF.jpg Michael:) |
