Civilian Opel Blitz (Tamiya, 1/35)

Hello Everyone!

I have been away from Planetarmor and modeling for some time, since I joined the Turkish Army for my mandatory military service. Having completed that, I'm back again!

Unfortunately, after serving in the armed forces I really grew tired of everything that is green or camouflage painted. And no, playing with real vehicles is no fun when you have to clean them, maintain them and constantly get yelled at. As a result, I decided to model something different for my first project.

I was in signal corps, so most of our vehicles were trucks (radio trucks, shelter trucks, transports... you name it). So I decided to build a truck... but make it civilian vehicle. Not many candidates for this in 1/35 scale, but I managed to get my hands on one:

As far as I can see, this is a nicely detailed kit that fits well together. The only bad thing I can see (and it ruins the cargo section) is the ejector marks. Those are all over the place! Such marks on such a new kit is senseless...

The chassis... The front wheels are somewhat movable.

The truck is in three parts: the chassis, the cargo bed and the cab. I first test fitted these and tried to see what it would look like. Very promising. The cab is very easy to assemble, especially compared to Italeri's old Opel Blitz.

When I decided to go civilian, I had to decide on colors. Opel Blitz trucks were produced even after WW2 and some of these and Mercedes L3000 trucks found their way to Turkey, eventually. These were repaired, re-repaired, re-re-repaired and constantly painted over and over again. The owners generally chose cheap colors, which were also strange looking as well. I decided to paint the wheel hubs and chassis black. For the truck cab, I chose bright blue. And finally for the cargo bed, I planned to first paint it wooden, then paint with another color and chip it away to reveal the wood.
