I've been building Tamiya old M3 for the last two days. A bit of a dog really, as can be seen
here.
Nevertheless, I want to use this as an excercise for painting and weathering. I carefully assembled, trying to get rid of all the seams, flash and nooks and crannies. There were several small gaps to fill, which I filled with DIY wall filler, thinned with liquid cement. After building, I primed it in Halfords grey car primer, and re-checked everything. As can be seen, there were several spots that needed attention. In the building process, I used sprue cutters, scalpel, sand paper (120 and 600), plus files. I use Tamiya Extra Thin to glue.
I want to depict a 1st Marine Tank Batallion tank at Guadalcanal. They used geometric shapes and coloured bands as unit identification. The markings will be slightly fictional, but are based on Concord's Armor o/t Pacific, US Light Tanks at War, and the Osprey NV M3/M5 Stuart.
I painted Tamiya yellow on the lower edge of the turret. I then attached a strip pf masking tape, cut with a photo cutting ruler to the lower end, awaiting a coat of OD.
The OD has been sprayed. Photos will follow shortly.
Any comments are welcome!
Enjoy, and cheers, MartinD
