link and length and plastic individual track links

Am I the only one who finds the above (espeically the individual links as provided by Dragon, Tamiya and such like) a total pain and garanteed to bring on an attack of foaming dog feaver (as my friend calls it) or not? Would something like Modelkasten with thier positive joing system be the way to go?
