Hi folks,
I will start with pics of the M48A2GA2 that AR BN in the southern part of Germany used till end of 1982. After REFORGER 1982 started the transition to Leopard1A1A3for PzBtl 354 or Leopard2A1 for PzBtl 123, 124, 244, 363 and 364. The M48A2GA2 was transferred to reformed or newly formed PzBtl of the socalled Heimatschutzbrigaden, some kind of a second-line "Home Defense" formations.
The model is the Tamiya M48A3 and the AEF Design conversion set. I neglected the correction of the height of the vehicle as I had the impression that it represents the "Devine Major End Item" perfectly.
- An AEG Searchlight of a CAN Leopard C1 project was used due to the fact that the supplied one incl. mountings was a mess.
- The mantlet was missing the openings for M97 auxilliary sight and the coax. Small allu tubing was used.
- The taillights, reflector and B.O. marker brake light were build out of stretched sprue, metal tubing and lead foil from wine bottles.
- The chains for the smoke dischargers were made of wires of the beautiful net like arrangement that you' find on Spainish wine bottles. Unwinding them and winding two up in a drill will form perfect chain and wires.
- The MG mounting is missing on the TC Cupola due to the fact that the mounting doesn't represent the correct one and the same applies for the MG. The MG 3 was used not the "old" MG 1 an exact copy of the MG 42 except for the NATO caliber.
- An gun travel lock of a M60A1 kit was used. The German Army M48A2 never used the taller one, as supplied with the Tamiya kit.
- AFV T97 tracks were used. They fit quite perfect and mud holes added to the sprockets.
I will post Sherman pictures to this site later due to the fact that the Shermans were build prior to the times of digital cameras and I must take pictures of them. Being honestly this thread is a test if I would succeed in activating my mental resources to post pictures.
Cheers
Hauke
