Some of you may or may not remember I already have a v-bench with a pair of M2's in the works but as that project is very involved I thought I might build something a little less tedious in between stages.
The 2nd AD conversion to face the mortar forward, is by far the most popular ( for lack of a better term ) but the 3rd AD conversion was much more complicated and IMO a much better 'design'.
.
Here are some pictures of where I started:
.
From what I have read it is my understanding that the M4/M4A1 was ( unlike most other halftracks ) the product of one manufacturer, the White Motor Co. One thing that almost all M4A1 mortar carriers in the pictures I've seen have is the later skate rail. Unlike the skate rail supplied with the kit, which is the solid frame welded gusset design, the later skate rail was a bolted bracket design. This first attempt didn't come out so well but hopefully my next attempt will be better.
.
.
There were some ugly kinks in the skate rail, a combination of cutting the heck out of the kit part and a spill this model took unto the floor breaking some parts, so I have attempted to hide the kinks with the radio and the MG.

I have a few more small details to add and I can begin painting, which will hopefully be within the next weeks time, I still have two full days off before my son is home from school for Christmas break.
Thanks for looking and as always, questions/comments/critiques are very much welcome.
