So I am a newb with the airbrush, but getting better. I love the color modulation look, and my attempts have been mostly involving pre-shading with primers (black in crevices/etc) before the base color coat.
But this isn't really color modulation...
The biggest hurdle i have run into is what colors to mix to get shadows/highlights. I know enough not to just darken/lighten with black and white as that makes ick.
Well, along comes a training wheel, the color modulation sets form AK-interactive! wee! I picked up a set of these and painted my
T-60 using them and really liked how it went, so I have decided to experiment a bit more. I realized that i did not go "far" enough with the modulation, as is gets toned down considerably as filters and washes are applied.
The best advice i have heard is to make a "tron tank" with the base colors, really accent the high and low color values.
anyways, here ia a 1/48th tank i painted in an hour with the color modulation set, as a "live practice"
I am not 100% happy with it, but that's why its practice right?
I love how easy these sets are to use, with the fast drying time with acrylics you can go form one shade to the next quickly.
Ill be experimenting more with this technique, I still need to hand brush details on this green guy and will add more highlights and "tron" edges to it. I want to get it as contrasted as possible to see what happens with the washes and filter.
