Hello everyone!
Many of you remember this base. It’s the one I used for my “making water" thread.
Well, I was looking at it this weekend and thought of doing something with it. I thought about it and in the end settle for a small scene on one of the canals of the river Volga at Stalingrad. I was thinking of placing one or two Soviet figures on it, but I haven’t figured it out yet. So while I come up with something I will first show you how I built the base.
The base is fairly small ( about 5” X 3 ˝”). I got it at a trophy shop.
The first thing was to do a masking to protect the edges.
I then cut a piece of high density insulation Styrofoam and place it so this would be the raised part of the canal.
Next, using a section of plaster blocks I made the canal walls. For more details on how to make your own blocks like these check out the Idea Factory on the Tips and Tricks threads.
Here it is with the walls trimmed off. I placed a piece of cardboard on top of the Styrofoam to raise it to the proper height.
The next step was to make the top pavement of the canal. For this I cast some plaster sidewalk parts. (Thanks to Driver for sculpting the masters).I trimmed each section and placed them one at a time.
Now the pavement was done and the base is ready for painting.
Until next time.
Dave
