Hi guys !
This is one of my "never-ending scratch projects" - the soundlocator made by German/Austrian Goerz company. This device was used to localize enemy aircraft formations (mostly by night) and in most cases was interconnected with big AA searchlights (120-150 cm diameter). Three or four searchlights
for each soundlocator.
Eight Goerz soundlocators were bought by Polish Army before 1939 and used during Septemper campaign in AA defense of Warsaw and probably in Gdynia.
Simultaneously I`ve started scratch a searchlight (French production) type Sautter-Harle (150 cm diameter) with remote control device which was also used in Polish Army.
Thanks to intensive historical research which took me more time that scratch build I`ve managed to determine that vast majority of equipment produced by Goerz/Sautter-Harle and bought by Poland was used in 14th AA Searchlight Company. The company first took part in AA defense of Warsaw, than was relocated to the east where was captured by Soviets. Almost all of the 14th AA SC officers were killed in Katyń by Soviets.
All is all this is a part of bigger project ...
Apart from soundlocator and searchlight there is also a Polish prototype PZInż 202 heavy tractor, 75 mm AA gun produced by Starchowice company, rangefinder and central device (AA calculator) produced by PZO-Levallois and many others ...
PS How I can insert small jpg of Goerz as the icon of this thread (in vbech threads list) ?
