g'day guys ...
while (still) waiting for the replacement package of panther friuls (ATL-06) and being able to climb the ladder for the very first time since i injured my leg (AND having the time!) i did a quick and easy build of the tamiya panzer III yesterday ... what can i say? the quality is typical tamiya: perfect fit, easy to assemble - tamiya shake 'n bake at it's best ... the big minus are some lacking details (as always) the missing pe grilles in particular ... and as i am not willing to play that tamiya game and buy their own am grills this was the start of some homemade detailing and out of a quick ootb build came some
some kind of out of the box build:
- adding the grills with some fabric
- scratched the light cabling
- scratched the cupolas aiming thingy by cutting a pe fret frame
- cut away the towing cables and (trying to) scratch the clasps for the cables
- added h0 gauge brass chain to the towing hook thingies
- added metal antenna from the dml premium kingtiger
- drilled out the mg barrels
- took the dml magic tracks from their panzerIVf2 instead of the vinyl ones supplied with the kit (was too lazy to drill holes and insert wire)
i am still thinking of adding a field modificated air defense mg as seen in one of my reference books. and atm i have absolutely no idea neither what unit i should assign this tank to nor if i will paint it plain grey or grey with sandyellow stripes and green ones inside the yellow ones ...
the reference i found of how the grills have been attached (no frame around the grill):

the field modificated aa-mg mount:

upper hull, turret, spare tracks and towing cable are just dry fitted:

you see the drilled out barrel?
the lights cabling:
that h0 gauge brass chains:
the commander figure i thought would fit in the cupola fine and hence i (still!) haven't finished it it was a good opportunity to add the headphone and microphone cabling ...
that's it for now ... i'll prime the vehicle this evening upon my return ...
cheers
