Good Day everyone...playtime! A groupbuild on another forum caught my attention, and haviing just completed the PzIII the tiiming was good for me to join in. The theme for the build is simply Hetzer.
So with that I place my order and the mailman has just recently brought me a package . I'll be using the Eduard Late as it comes with a bit of basic engine detail allowing me a little flexibility fo leaving some of the hatches ajar.
Since placing the order a few weeks ago I spent some amount of time tying to figure-out what to do with my Hetzer...some people (Jan
) got off to a fast start and picked excellent references from which to build.
What I decided finally was not to build as much a specific vehicle, but to concentrate instead upon the scene. While looking for inspiration, scenes such as these caught my attention....I decided to depict my Hetzer being used as a cornerstone within a street barricade.
I'm thinking that the final painting of my Hetzer will be somewhat basic, as I intend to place the vehicle amongst lots of rubble etc., I'm concerned that it might get too "busy". With this in mind I'm thinking something along these lines:
So with the iintroduction out of the way lets begin. Construction begins with the engine and the engine compartment....

....it was here that I decided that the final look of my Hetzer will show a burned-out engine compartment with the engine hatches open ...so I did a little extra detailing of the engine and the compartment just to make it a little busier looking. A big thanks to Adam (Tigermud) who dropped by and provided me with a stack of reference material

...a little work on the compartment...and the painting of the engine begins. Once again new terrritory for me as I've not attempted to depict a burnt finish before...I think that the exterior will be not a total burn, but more of a scorched look around the hatches...well see what I can pull-off..
First-up is the engine. Vallejo paints, oil paints (paynes grey & white)....
....continued work with the paints, and adding a little pastel chalks to the mix...
and there is the start...kind of unusual for me to begin a build with painting, but I also very rarely do any interiors! Back to work on the burning of my engine compartment....
