Hello everyone,
A while ago, in May 2010, I decided to start a new project and build a civilian truck after chatting with some friends. We realized that a lot of different trucks found their way into Turkey in the 1950s and 1960s and some of these trucks served well into the 1980s, as there were strict restrictions on imported vehicles and the demand was always more than available supply.
For conventional purposes, I decided to stick to 1/35 scale and I had two options: either a Mercedes L-3000 or an Opel Blitz (both trucks were imported and used in large numbers and they even appear in old movies).
I decided to try Tamiya's Opel Blitz (which was a relatively new kit back in 2010).
The interior of the truck was painted and weathered...
Then, as far as I remember, I painted the cargo bed with Tamiya's Flesh. Then using oil colors straight from their bottle, I covered the cargo bed with Burnt Umber, when wiped the oil color off. I made irregular strokes as to create a wood effect.
The civilian trucks generally changed a lot of owners. It seems they were generally painted in outrageous colors as these colors were cheaper. Therefore I decided to paint my truck bright blue, a popular truck color in 1960s Turkey. (The same blue was also used in buildings and was one of the cheapest colors available)
At this point, I decided to add some decorative paintings on the truck then chip these away using the paint spray method. The result was disastrous! Without knowing, I used a spray with high alcohol content and used the spray from a close distance. Within seconds, the entire paint cracked, bubbled and melted in some places, flowing on all directions. The entire paint and the surface of the model was ruined. This was back in June 2010 and the project was abandoned...
